The batik collector

I’ve been collecting batik for around two years. I usually go batik hunting at the market, batik gallery, batik exhibition, or even online shops. Now I have almost 20 pieces of batik fabric that I collect. I don’t want to sew them. I just store them in my cupboard. Every time I feel bored or stressed out, I open my cupboard, spend some time to look at my collections, and I feel happy! I know it’s a weird thing to do. Haha! But it’s sort of like a stress release therapy for me.

Collecting things, like batik for example, is actually fun! I believe everyone loves collecting at least one thing. When I was a child, I used to collect stamps, stickers, tazos, artists’ pin-ups and barbie. As I grow older, I collect books and jazz cd, and some girlie stuffs like cosmetics and bags! Haha! But for now, most of my money goes to batik fabric, batik shawls, batik clothes, and batik bag. LOL!

Well, talking about collecting stuffs, did you ever think that someday your collections will be in someone else’s cupboard? Like your younger sister or even to your children? My mom, once said, that one of the things I have to keep if she died is fridge magnets. She’s been collecting fridge magnets for years, and those magnets covered almost the whole part our big fridge at home. I don’t like fridge magnets but of course I have to keep them as Mom’s heritage :)

So, in my case, if I have a daughter one day, I’m going to let her keep my batik collection. I’m gonna be happy if I can share my love of batik to her :)) I’ll teach her how to take care of hand-painted fabrics, how to store them, and how to help conserving Indonesia’s heritage. I know I’m such an obsessive mother. Haha!

There are many stories about girls who collect something. I even heard that there are some girls in my age who still collect things like dolls and hello kitty. I hope you’re not one of them :P I don’t know if men do the same thing too. My boyfriend is a bookworm so he collect books. What about you? Do you collect anything? I believe those collector who collect things, have strong personal reasons and/or stories about their collections. At last, do love and take care of your collection, but please don’t be a collector of love! :D (sorry for the cheesy punchline!!)

NB: This is one of my best batik tulis shawl collection, bought from Ing Dee Gallery. I’m too much in love with this one! I use it as shawl and skirt sometime..
