There’s a bit of music in me

I haven’t touch my piano for YEARS!

But I finally play my piano again today! Just like another music instruments lessons, when you stop practicing your skill and your memory are unlikely to stay.

It is really sad I know, my parents sent me to music course since I was four years old. But I never practice seriously, I was so lazy back then, well I still am. Haha! My father really wants one of his children to become musician like him. But too bad all of us did not take music lessons seriously. My brother plays jazz guitar for his own interest only. My sister quit playing piano since she was teenage. And what about me? I prefer listening than playing for now :D

I listened to quite a lot of kind of music when I was in junior high and in senior high. Mostly black music and a bit of pop. I used to play in girls’ band. When I joined the band, I did not play piano (since it was really hard to bring piano on stage). When asked to play keyboard, I refused to play, coz I don’t know why I just hate keyboard. I hate whatever electric, coz it sounds artificial. LOL. So then I tried to play acoustic guitar and simple set of drums. It was really fun to be in a band! Sadly, I quit the band too early because I moved to another school.

Now I only love listening to jazz music. Now I feel like I am too old for top 40. Haha! Luckily I have a boyfriend who has good taste of music. So sometimes I listen to what he listens too. He plays piano as well, but his strength is in classical piano. So when he wants to play a song that he likes, he’ll try hard to play exactly the same like how the song played by the artist. While for me, it’s absolutely okay to play the song with wrong chords or slipped melodies because that’s the way the jazz musician plays. The more we improvise, the better :D For me personally, I like a song that is rich in instruments, crazy chords, and unexpected improvisation. But for him, his motto is the less instruments the better, simple chords, easy improvisation. It’s quite funny to know that we both have a totally different taste when it comes to music, but we love learning music from each other.

Recently my boyfriend arranged and recorded a number of songs in his iPad, using Garage band application. I joined him to fill the melodies, and the vocal too. If we’ve finished with it, we plan to upload it here. Woohoo!
